Juliette’s first birthday party

Well, it has taken me long enough. Here are some pictures from Juliette’s first birthday party last Sunday in our backyard. I especially like the cake pictures. Funny, she wasn’t such a fan of sweet icing, but playing with the cake sure was fun. Also included are some gift-opening pictures. There are 20 pictures total, so be sure to scroll through them all.

The second is of a fantastic white columbine that blooms white on one stalk amidst an otherwise purple bush. Very strange, but very beautiful.

Who’s a sleepy baby?

Last week, J cut her top two teeth. She was kinda cranky much of last week, but is much better this week. Here are some photos of her taken last week one morning when she just didn’t want to wake up. I thought they were too cute!

She Crawls!!!!!

I know it has been (or seemed like) forever since I’ve posted recent pictures. Well, today I have good reason. Juliette has been trying to learn how to crawl for weeks, but reverse was her only gear that worked. Not the most helpful, though it did get her places – mostly under chairs and tables. We’ve been spending lots of time on the floor with her this past week (and her grandparents have been excellent about spending lots of tummy time with her during the day), and she finally has begun to crawl forward! I can’t tell you how happy I was to see it happen last night. For weeks everybody has been saying something along the lines of “Well, she must be crawling all over the place now” and I would just smile and say “Not yet!” and laugh it off, but inside I was just the teensiest bit worried about the face that she wasn’t crawling when all these other babies 7, 8 or 9 months, that I am hearing about have been crawling for some time. This morning, it was Beulah trying to get her to play that motivated her to want to crawl. She’s so cute at it too! Her reverse gear still works really well, but she’s using her forward now too.

Recent pics from new camera

I recently got a new Panasonic DMC-ZS3 camera because my old Nikon Coolpix, which I dearly, dearly loved, was really showing it’s age. I was all set to get the newest Nikon Coolpix, the S8000, but when I discovered that it didn’t permit optical zoom while using the video feature, I decided to go with the comparable Panasonic instead. I saved a lot of money by getting in online through Abe’s of Maine. I’ll post some video snippets too, just as soon as I learn how.

Tulip cardigan for Juliette

I bought this pattern at the Shepherd’s Harvest Sheep and Wool Festival last year over Mother’s day weekend. The Yarn Garage was sellnig kits of Dream in Color‘s Tulip cardigan sweater and I was so struck by the colors, I just had to buy a kit. The sweater was fun, easy and fast to make. I think I want to make another one. Maybe an adult size this time.

Well, yes, as a matter of fact I am! And I have to tell you, it smelled so good baking I was just about ready to gnaw off an arm before it was done. If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s for company coming tonight (it’s my turn to host my quilt guild), I would have had at it already. There is almost a pound of chocolate in this beast. Doesn’t it just look dreadfully delicious? The recipe is called Mississippi Chocolate and Coffee Cake. The other night, just as I was trying to figure out what to make, I got one of my weekly e-mails from Cooking.com with a bunch of Mississippi mud cake recipes, and this one was pictured. I had everything I needed to make it, and we all love chocolate more than our luggage, so here we go. I’ll let you know how it tasted just as soon as I recover from the cocoa coma it’s bound to put me in.

Update: Just so you all know, it was every bit as good as it looked, and then some!
